Keystone

A short-term rental design project in

Keystone, Colorado

Project Overview

Keystone was designed as a refined mountain retreat that balances atmosphere, comfort, and performance. Originally inspired by a champagne-like concept that felt celebratory, moody, and elevated, the final design evolved into a palette of rich blacks, deep blues, and gold accents while preserving the original vision of bold sophistication.

The goal was to prove that darker palettes can feel inviting, warm, and highly livable when executed with intention. Rather than relying on traditional alpine themes, the design emphasizes contrast, texture, and cohesion to create a space that feels elevated without feeling cold or rigid.

This property was built to function as both a lifestyle space and a high-performing STR asset, delivering visual impact, guest comfort, and operational efficiency within a compact studio footprint.

Design Strategy

This home was designed for travelers seeking a mountain experience that feels elevated, cozy, and design-forward without sacrificing comfort or function. The target guest profile includes ski travelers, couples, weekend adventurers, remote workers, and small groups looking for a stylish basecamp that feels more refined than traditional lodge-style accommodations.

Market analysis revealed a competitive landscape dominated by rustic interiors, traditional alpine aesthetics, and visually cluttered mountain décor. This created a clear opportunity to differentiate through a modern, moody design language that feels intentional, sophisticated, and cohesive while still aligning with the emotional expectations of a mountain retreat.

Performance goals were directly tied to booking behavior. The design prioritized:

  • Strong visual identity for listing photography

  • Scroll-stopping first-impression appeal

  • Warmth and comfort within a darker palette

  • Efficient use of a compact studio layout

  • Emotional connection through atmosphere and tone

  • Market differentiation to support booking confidence and pricing strength

The result is a property that performs as both a refined mountain retreat and a competitive, conversion-driven short-term rental asset.
